ION Luxury Adventure Hotel

In the land of legends, where fire meets ice, the hotel appears, Ion, the most impressive luxury hotel in Iceland, designed by Minarc.

Situated on the slopes of Mt. Hengill, the Ion is perched on top of a series of pillars and cladded in Viroc. Its exterior resembles lava emerging from the mountainside.

The Ion, with the use of natural light, outdoor spaces and panoramic views of the surroundings, creates a sense of unity, where the limits of the Viroc walls seem to beckon to nature.

Inspired by the surrounding environment, Ion plays with innovative materials, sustainable practices and the natural characteristics of Iceland in its design. Surrounded by hot springs, they provide hot geothermal water and energy.

The prefabricated construction system in Viroc panels complies with environmentally safe construction standards. Floating wood and other natural materials are used extensively in furniture throughout the hotel. Beds and chairs are made from recycled materials.

Each room is detailed with strict lighting effects and subtle color palettes, as well as an abundance of natural light. The large panoramic windows in each room offer stunning views of Lake Thingvallavatn and the surrounding mountains, over which Nature’s own theater unfolds while the most spectacular light show, the Northern Lights, comes to life.
