V-urban® Cement Bonded Particle Board

Viroc ist eine Verbundplatte, die aus einer Mischung aus Holzpartikeln und Zement besteht und als zementgebundene Spanplatte (CBPB – Cement Bonded Particle Board) bezeichnet wird.

Sie kombiniert die Flexibilität von Holz mit der Widerstandsfähigkeit und Haltbarkeit von Zement, wodurch ein breites Spektrum von Anwendungen sowohl in Innen- als auch Außenbereichen ermöglicht wird.

Die Herstellung des Viroc-Panels entspricht den Spezifikationen der Normen EN 634 und EN 13986 mit einem CE-Kennzeichnungszertifikat.

Die Viroc-Platte weist ein heterogenes Aussehen mit unterschiedlichen, zufällig verteilten Farbtönen auf, die sich aus den natürlichen Farben der verwendeten Rohstoffe und der chemischen Reaktionen ergeben. Es können Farbtonunterschiede auf der gleichen Seite, zwischen den Seiten der gleichen Platte oder zwischen verschiedenen Produktionen auftreten.

Die Platte V-Urban ist eine Viroc-Platte mit lackierter Oberfläche, die zur Anbringung an hinterlüfteten Fassaden bestimmt ist. Sie verfügt über eine QB-Zertifizierung (Qualité pour le Bâtiment – Qualität im Bauwesen) und hat ein vom CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment – Wissenschaftliches und technisches Zentrum für Bauwesen) ausgestelltes allgemeines bauaufsichtliches Zulassungsdokument (Avis Technique).

Lagerung

Die transportfertigen Platten werden ab Werk mit einer undurchlässigen Plastikfolie geschützt. Die Seitenränder werden mit Karton in L-Form geschützt, einschließlich der, die in Kontakt mit den Bändern des Verpackungssystems sind. Der Schutz dieser Kanten muss bis zum Einbau der Platten beibehalten werden.

Die Viroc-Platten müssen in einem überdachten Bereich, mit ebenem und horizontalem Untergrund, gelagert werden, geschützt vor Sonnenlicht und Regen. Die Paletten werden auf Stützen mit ausreichender Höhe (≥8 cm) abgesetzt, um den leichten Zugang mit einem Gabelstapler zu ermöglichen. Der maximale Abstand zwischen den Stützen darf nicht höher als 80 cm sein und der maximale Abstand zwischen der ersten Stütze und der Oberseite der Palette darf 210 mm nicht überschreiten.

Wenn die Paletten übereinander gestapelt werden, müssen alle Stützunterlagen vertikal ausgerichtet sein, um Verformungen zu vermeiden.

Eine Stapelung bis zu 6 Paletten mit einer Höhe von maximal 4 Metern ist erlaubt.

Handhabung

Sofern es möglich ist, muss die Handhabung der Platten mithilfe geeigneter Geräte ausgeführt werden, wie zum Beispiel mit Gabelstaplern oder Plattenhebern.

Falls die Platten per Hand transportiert werden müssen, muss jede Platte einzeln in vertikaler Position getragen werden, damit diese eben bleibt und sich nicht verformt.

Die Platten sind schwer, sodass ihre manuelle Handhabung nicht durchgeführt werden darf, ohne dass eine ausreichende Anzahl an Personen vorhanden ist.

Es müssen die bewährten Praktiken für die manuelle Handhabung von Lasten befolgt werden, mithilfe der geeigneten persönlichen Schutzausrüstungen und entsprechend den gesetzlichen europäischen Sicherheits- und Gesundheitsvorschriften, Osha.Europa.eu (Factsheet 73).

Akklimatisierung

Die Platten haben ab Werk eine Feuchtigkeit zwischen 6 und 12 % und bleiben bei einer Temperatur von 15 bis 25 ºC im Gleichgewicht, mit einer relativen Luftfeuchtigkeit von 60 bis 80 %.

Um die geeigneten Einbaubedingungen sicherzustellen, muss die Platte den Temperatur- und Feuchtigkeitsbedingungen des Einbauorts angepasst werden. Dafür müssen die Bänder, welche die Paletten umschließen, durchgeschnitten und die Plastikschutzfolie entfernt werden. Die Platten müssen mindestens 72 Stunden vor dem Einbau am Einbauort verweilen, damit sie sich dort akklimatisieren können.

Während der Akklimatisierung können sich die Platten, die sich oben auf den Paletten befinden, deren Bänder bereits entfernt wurden, wölben, wobei sie eine nach oben ausgerichtete Vertiefung bilden. Dieses Phänomen ist natürlich und geschieht aufgrund des unterschiedlichen Feuchtigkeitsverlustes zwischen den zwei Oberflächen. Jedoch ist dieser Prozess wieder umkehrbar. Die Platte wird wieder eben, wenn sie mit der Unterseite nach oben umgedreht wird. Die gleiche Wirkung wird erreicht, wenn die konkave Seite (Oberfläche nach oben gerichtet) mit Wasser befeuchtet wird.

Schnitt, Bohrung und maschinelle Bearbeitung

Die Platten können mit elektrischen Werkzeugen oder mit Luftdruckwerkzeugen, die normalerweise in Schreinereien oder Tischlereien verwendet werden, geschnitten, gebohrt und maschinell bearbeitet werden. Der Schnitt, die Bohrung oder maschinelle Bearbeitung der Viroc- und U-Urban-Platten setzt Staub frei, der Spuren von Siliziumdioxid enthalten kann; dies ist ein Stoff, der im Zement enthalten ist, sodass die geeignete Schutzausrüstung wie Maske, Handschuhe, Brille usw., getragen werden muss.

Schnitt

Der Schnitt der Viroc-Platten muss mit einer Kreissäge mit einem Hartmetall-Kreissägeblatt mit hoher Verschleißbeständigkeit (Wolfram) oder mit einem Diamantsägeblatt durchgeführt werden (siehe Abb. 1.7). Um mehrere Schnitte durchzuführen oder Platten mit einer Dicke von 19 mm oder mehr zu schneiden, muss ein horizontaler Schneidetisch verwendet werden. Bohrung

Die Bohrung muss mit einer Bohrmaschine im Modus „ohne Schlag“ mithilfe von HSS-Bohrern (High Speed Steel) durchgeführt werden, die zum Bohren von Metall geeignet sind.

Maschinelle Bearbeitung der Kanten

Die einfache maschinelle Bearbeitung der Kanten kann auf der Baustelle mithilfe einer tragbaren Fräsmaschine durchgeführt werden.

Unter Verwendung der richtigen Fräsen können Kanten bearbeitet werden mit: Fase, Abrundung, Einkerbung usw.

Die Kanten der Platten können mit im Werk hergestellten Einkerbungen, Nut-Feder oder Überlappungsverbindung geliefert werden.

Verlorene Schalungen

Die Viroc-Platte ist aufgrund ihrer Widerstandsfähigkeit und Dauerhaftigkeit ein Produkt mit hervorragender Leistung bei der Anwendung als verlorene Schalung. Um den Abfall zu minimieren, sollte die Platte auf ihre größte Abmessung zugeschnitten werden, sodass 1250 mm lange Platten mit der gewünschten Breite entstehen.

Die Breite der Platten der verlorenen Schalung wird durch den Abstand zwischen den Trägern, ob aus Metall oder Stahlbeton, zuzüglich 5 cm für jede Seite, Mindeststützmaß auf den Trägern, bestimmt.

Die Platte Viroc wird aufgrund ihrer Ästhetik und Langlebigkeit auch in Zwischendecken im Innen- und Außenbereich eingesetzt.

Bei der Anbringung von Zwischendecken sind sowohl im Innen- als auch im Außenbereich offene Fugen zwischen den Platten vorzusehen.

Die Mindestdicke der Viroc-Platten, die für Innendecken in Trockenbereichen verwendet werden, beträgt 10 mm und 12 mm in Nassbereichen, egal ob innen oder außen.

In Nassbereichen empfiehlt es sich, Farbe oder Lack aufzutragen.

Aufgrund ihrer mechanischen Festigkeit, ihrer Luftschalldämmmaßes, ihres Wärmewiderstandes und ihrer Feuchtigkeitsbeständigkeit eignet sie sich auch zur Unterstützung von Dachverkleidungen.

Bodenbeläge

Der Bau von konstruktiven Böden oder Fußbodenbelägen ist eine weitere mögliche Anwendung der Viroc-Platten.


Sie wird häufig bei der Renovierung alter Gebäude als Ersatz für den traditionellen Holzboden verwendet, der sich bei Anwesenheit von Wasser in den Bereichen der Sanitäranlagen, Küchen und in den Verbindungsbereichen zu den Fassadenwänden zersetzt.

Sie kann als Belag und Veredelung von bestehenden Böden verwendet werden.
Die Mindestdicke der Platten, die für konstruktive Bodenbeläge verwendet werden, beträgt 19 mm.
Bei Verwendung als Belag, ohne konstruktive Funktion und auf einer bestehenden Oberfläche aufliegend, beträgt die empfohlene Dicke 12 mm.

Bei der Verlegung auf Fußböden ist auf die Belastungen zu achten, denen die Viroc-Platte ausgesetzt sein wird, da ihre Festigkeit von der Plattendicke und dem Abstand zwischen den Stützbalken abhängt.
Es wird empfohlen, Farben oder Lacke aufzutragen, die für Böden mit einer guten Verschleißfestigkeit geeignet sind.

Wände

Die Platte Viroc eignet sich auch für den Bau von Trennwänden.

Bei der Anwendung im Freien sind die gleichen Regeln wie bei hinterlüfteten Fassaden zu beachten.

Diese Anwendung wird durch die Eigenschaften der Platte hinsichtlich des visuellen Aspekts, der mechanischen Festigkeit, der Schalldämmung, der Feuerbeständigkeit und der Dauerhaftigkeit verbessert.

Sie ist eine bevorzugte Wahl in Hotelzimmern oder Kinos, in denen die akustische Beständigkeit gegen Luftschall und die Feuerbeständigkeit die Kriterien sind, die den abzutrennenden Raum definieren. Die Feuchträume in Innenbereichen sind aufgrund der Beständigkeit der Platte Viroc gegen Feuchtigkeit ebenfalls ideale Bereiche für ihren Einsatz, wie z.B. die Anwendung in Schwimmbadkomplexen, Umkleideräumen und Sanitäranlagen.

Die Platte Viroc kann auch als Beschichtung und Verkleidung bestehender Wände, sowohl innen als auch außen, verwendet werden.

Die Mindestdicke der Viroc-Platten, die bei Innenwänden in trockenen Räumen verwendet werden, beträgt 10 mm und 12 mm für Anwendungen in Innen- oder Außennassbereichen.

Die Platte Viroc kann im Außenbereich, insbesondere in hinterlüfteten Fassaden, eingesetzt werden und ist aufgrund ihrer unbestreitbaren Vorteile der Wärmedämmung und Robustheit die ideale Lösung für Außenverkleidungen.

Oberflächenausführungen

Die Viroc-Platte wird roh, ohne Oberflächenbehandlung geliefert. Die Oberflächen weisen einige Unregelmäßigkeiten und Unvollkommenheiten auf, wie z.B. kleine Verkrustungen, Flecken, Kratzer und Salze aus chemischen Reaktionen.

Viroc empfiehlt, die Viroc-Platte mit einem Lack zu versehen, damit sie geschützt ist und ihre Reinigung und Instandhaltung erleichtert wird.

Vorbereitung der Oberfläche

Wann immer die Platte auf Sicht angebracht werden soll, auch wenn vorgesehen ist, kein Lack aufzutragen, muss eine Reinigung/Polierung der sichtbar werdenden Oberfläche mit einer Reinigungsscheibe durchgeführt werden, um Staub, Kratzer, Schmutzpartikel und Salze zu entfernen.

Die Reinigung/Polierung verändert das natürliche Aussehen der Platte nicht, da die Flecken und Uneinheitlichkeiten bestehen bleiben, die sie charakterisieren, sowie einige Salze und Verkrustungen, die in die Oberfläche eingedrungen sind. Viroc verfügt über geeignete Reinigungsscheiben, die auf Anfrage des Kunden geliefert werden.

Vor der Behandlung der Oberflächen sollten die Platten durch Luftblasen oder vorzugsweise durch Absaugen gereinigt werden, damit sie frei von jeglicher Art von Staub sind, der die Oberflächenbehandlung beeinträchtigt.

Beispiel für die Reinigung einer vor Ort hergestellten Platte mit einem Schwingschleifer:

Farben und Lacke

Das Auftragen eines Lacks auf die Viroc-Platte hat den Zweck, sie vor den schädlichen Umweltauswirkungen, wie z.B. Sonneneinstrahlung und schlechtes Wetter, zu schützen, die Haltbarkeit zu erhöhen, die Reinigung zu erleichtern und ihr Aussehen im Laufe der Zeit zu erhalten.

Das Auftragen eines Lacks kann den Farbton der natürlichen Farbe der Viroc-Platte verändern und verleiht ihr ein „nasses“ Aussehen mit einem gewissen Glanz. Bevor die Platten lackiert werden, müssen die Oberflächen vollständig sauber und trocken, frei von Fett, Staub oder Oberflächensalzen sein. Die Oberflächen müssen durch Polieren mit einer Reinigungsscheibe oder alternativ durch Schleifen der Oberfläche mit feinem Schleifpapier der Körnung 120 oder höher gereinigt werden.

Es gibt keine spezifischen Farben und Lacke, die auf Viroc aufgetragen werden müssen. Die Platte hat eine oberflächliche Alkalinität (pH) von 11 bis 13, sodass normalerweise die Farben und Lacke, die gleichzeitig für Beton- und Holzoberflächen geeignet sind, die besten Ergebnisse erzielen, wenn sie auf die Viroc-Platte aufgetragen werden.

Lösemittelbasierte Acrylharzfarben und -lacke haben die beste Leistung gezeigt. Acrylharzlacke auf Wasserbasis sind diejenigen, die die ursprüngliche Plattenfarbe am wenigsten verändern.

Zusätzlich zu den oben genannten Eigenschaften müssen die Farben und Lacke für ihren Verwendungszweck geeignet sein. Wenn es sich beispielsweise um eine Außenfassade handelt, muss die Farbe/Lackierung für die Verwendung an Außenwänden geeignet sein; wenn es sich um einen Innenfußboden handelt, muss die Farbe/Lackierung eine Härte und Widerstandsfähigkeit aufweisen, die für die Verwendung auf Fußböden geeignet ist.

Die Verwendung von Viroc-Platten auf Küchenarbeitsplatten und in Duschkabinen sollte mit einer Farbe/Lackierung geschützt werden, die sich bei ständigem Kontakt mit Wasser nicht verschlechtert.

Im Allgemeinen sind die Lacke leicht aufzutragen, aber es ist sehr wichtig zu berücksichtigen, dass der Auftrag kontinuierlich und konstant sein muss, um die Einheitlichkeit der Plattenoberfläche zu gewährleisten und um sicherzustellen, dass die Oberfläche nicht fleckig wird und verschiedene Farbtöne aufweist. Die Farbe oder der Lack muss immer auf beiden Seiten und auf den Oberseiten der Platten aufgebracht werden, wobei die vom Hersteller bereitgestellten Anwendungsverfahren immer bei den empfohlenen Schichten eingehalten werden müssen.

Geschliffen/Kalibriert

Bei Bedarf können die Platten geschliffen/kalibriert geliefert werden. Die Kalibrierung der Platte besteht darin, die Oberflächen mit einem groben Schleifpapier aufzurauen, um die Abweichung der Dicke zu minimieren, insbesondere dann, wenn dieser Boden als Unterboden verwendet wird und die Beschichtung eine dünne Schicht wie ein Linoleum- oder Vinylgewebe ist.

Nach dem Schleifen sind Holzpartikel auf den Oberflächen sichtbar. Die geschliffene Platte hat keine dekorativen Merkmale, die sichtbar bleiben.

El Rincón del Chez is a small space, about 15 square meters, formerly occupied by an ice cream shop that has been transformed into a shop for wine tasting.

It is integrated in Estafeta street – well known for its surroundings with the festival of San Fermin – using the textures and forms of the pavements of the street. It seeks to materialize the street in a small fragment.

The gray Viroc was chosen, together with oak wood, to make both walls, ceilings and furniture. The goal was to use materials present in the winemaking process.

Cine Elma (1950) is one of the most emblematic buildings of the municipality. Its use as a movie theater was replaced by the emerging theatrical activity.

The main goal of this rehabilitation project was to adapt the existing building to the needs of the theater. A new covering unites the whole theater to a single height, allowing to incorporate a large panoramic window that delimits great part of the building.

The characteristics of the building were recovered to the maximum, recovering openings in the façade that were covered over the years. This allowed to recover the visibility from the public spaces increasing the luminosity and fomenting the visual relation between the exterior and the internal activity of the theater.

The facades were painted in a light tonality allowing to emphasize the frames, structures and existing paintings. The new interventions (bathrooms, auditorium and technical rooms) are perceived as independent structures.

The seats are concentrated in the points of greater visibility and the circulations are carried out by the sides.

Several products were used for this rehabilitation, with a greater focus on Viroc and Valchromat.

Timeless Amsterdam is a project that takes place in a vintage space, framing recovered objects with purposefully aged appearance on the top of a building in the city of Amsterdam.

The use of Viroc was the basis for giving shape to the intended rustic environment, having been used both in the interior wall clading and other details of interior decoration as well as in the facade of the space.

A place to visit as the surrounding area transports us to a journey between past and present with an incredible view over the city.

Since 2009, Rui Melo, a plastic artist from Azores, uses Viroc as a painting support, taking much of its texture and chromatic subtlety as part of his compositions, having become a remarkable material in his work as creative.

Rui Melo exhibits regularly in Portugal and abroad.

In 2015, the artist held in the Angra do Heroísmo Museum (Terceira – Azores) a solo exhibition called „In Concrete”, where he exhibited, mostly painted work on Viroc.

Rui Melo, works, were characterized by Carlos Bessa as:

„(…) Rui Melo shows ability to counteract the static and dynamic, through a personal grammar particularized landscapes and viewpoints, involving a staged lighting that leads the eye of the beholder to the pit edges. (…) Pays attention to the care with which any of the works aims the precarious balance of tension. Voltage between which expands and contracts and between excess and containment. Duplicity and sustain balance, therefore, a kind of mapping of lightness. “

In 2016, it was also selected as part of the exhibition ART MAP – Moving Art Project, and will participate with two painted works on Viroc. This event involved 120 artists from around the world.

Dona Ana Rosa Institute, Brazil

The Dona Ana Rosa Institute (IDAR) is a nonprofit civil organization, aimed at providing free assistance to underprivileged children and young people in 3 programs, in partnership with the São Paulo City Hall.

The IDAR aims to promote integration between the community, parents, students and employees to strengthen ties and provide activities that connect the Institute and families in order to guarantee users their right to basic care.

Our challenge was to insert a new building into an already built-up area in western São Paulo. The new building will be situated within a set of structures featuring pavilions with gable roofs that were once industrial warehouses.

There were two possible routes to take: either using the existing building, a warehouse with few architectural qualities and not designed for the current purposes; or creating a new model showcasing the institution’s transformation to the entire community, centering on charity work. The second model was chosen and Viroc was used to provide a rational, economical, clean and low impact project.

The project is implemented in a typical village of Beira Baixa, characterized by its traditional and vernacular architecture. Its location on the outskirts of the urban core, at a narrow strip of land with wide visibility for the Ocresa river, allows together with its program content, a differentiated architectural response that simultaneously respect the characteristics of the place.

The solution of ventilated facade Viroclin was recommended by the responsible architect Mario Benjamin. „It corresponded esthetically and functionally to the architecture intention. Our purpose was to maintan consensus with the initial project, either by the language of the materials used or by the constructive strength and versatility of the execution.“, he says.

The results are characterized by two volumes with four cottages. The cottages follow the topography of the land, assuming a styling that completes itself and dialogues with the surroundings.

Plaça d’Europa Parking aims to provide 136 parking spaces to the coastal area of the village of Es Pujols, which concentrates the major part of tourism on the island of Formentera.

In order to release the pressure of road traffic for pedestrians in the entire area of the Plaza de Europa, it has been developed a building of 3018 m2 completely buried whose cover forms a public space.

The simple geometry of the plant helps to optimize the use of the surface and only altered by an annex of facilities, whose facade is the result of the creation of the access ramp at the middle of the northeastern end of the building. Behind this unique building facade are located the control center, bathroom, water deposit and fire fightihng facilities.

Inside, the regular program of the isotropy functional and structural system have only an exception on the insertion of a longitudinal patio which absorbs the regulatory needs of natural ventilation, while visually connecting the parking level with the public space of the Plaza de Europa. This longitudinal section also represents an important source of natural light and houses inside the evacuation elements and vegetation that bring to mind the existing indigenous pine forest before the urbanization of the area.

„Plaça d’Europa Parking“ is a project made almost with a single material: concrete. We used it in different ways: in situ, prefabricated, in tiles and in light-weight panels. Viroc offered us a solution in dry construction to keep the material harmony in the space, keeping the soul of the project.“, claimed Marià Castelló Martínez, architect of the project.

The resulting interior space is of great constructive simplicity and sincerity, reversing a general harmony. The structure is also partly enclosure and left visible. The facilities have been studied to relate to the structural grid and allowed to view, to appreciate its beauty.

The Museum Casa Padre Toledo is an eighteenth century building inserted into the Tiradentes Cultural Campus.

Opened in 2013, Casa Padre Toledo Museum is an eighteenth century building inserted into the Cultural Campus of Tiradentes, the Federal University of Minas Gerais.

The expography Museum Casa Padre Toledo has the appreciation of emptiness, one of its essential ingredients, perhaps its own advantage. In order to direct the visitor’s attention to the surfaces of paintings and to the materiality of the house, Isabela and her team bet in simple artwork – colored lines that surround the openings – in conjunction with irreverent design furniture that support the contemplation of the ceilings and walls.

The interesting thing to note is the mix of Viroc with soapstone, typical stone of the Baroque Mineiro, from Minas Gerais, used in mobile displays, says the Architect Isabela Vecci, responsible for the project.

Located close to Alicante, Spain, VIVOOD Landscape Hotels is a new hotel chain, designed and managed by architects and engineers with a passion to create designed spaces with a new concept to offer a unique experience to its guests.

VIVOOD aim is to use modular architecture to create a network of sustainable resorts that blend into their rural settings. This is a place where travelers in search of new sensations will find peace and quiet in exclusive surroundings alongside ecological awareness.

The buildings are clad externally with black Viroc through the use of sustainable building systems and successfully integrated with the environment, emphasizing the use and combination of wood and Viroc. The earthy tones of these robust and sustainable materials help them to blend in with the natural landscape.

The outdoor image of VIVOOD is built by a covering black Viroc large format panels whose materiality is enriched with a play of lights and shadows projected by the sun through the vegetation. This union, also reproduced inside of the public buildings (restaurant and reception), delves into a seamless indoor-outdoor relationship that is the objective of this project.“, claimed Pedro García from Vivood Landscape Hotels.

The result is 25 independent suites, a restaurant and lounge bar, a panoramic swimming pool and several terraces and private outdoor hot tubs, all nestled in the heart of nature.

A pure ambience of silence and tranquility where you can get away from it all: a real differential value.

These “eco-portable” toilets have been developed by Brazilian architects Sérgio Viana and Jonathan Valle from Estúdio SJ2A. They have been designed using shipping containers to create sustainable architecture that makes maximum use of ecological building materials and techniques.

The containers have been modified to maximize the use of natural light. As mobile structures, the interior cladding employs flexible materials that can withstand a limited amount of movement.

According to the project architects, “The combination of the strength and flexibility of wood and the durability and rigidity of cement made Viroc panels ideal for this kind of use. Viroc enabled us to install all of the plumbing and electrical conduits need to make the equipment work.”

The “Buck Mountain” house, designed by US architectures Indigo – Architecture and Interiors, is located on Orcas Island, an island off the shore of Washington State, USA.

The “Buck Mountain” house rises among a vast green carpet, in the midst of the Orcas Island forest.The living room was designed to be a wide and convertible area, whose glass walls fully open giving way to a wonderful view that mixes the inside with the outside.

Viroc Grey, used in the “Buck Mountain” house to clad the walls, pavements and exterior facades, was chosen to complement the other materials used: spruce and cedar from the local forest, and iron.Viroc “creates a soothing and monolithic effect.(…) Cement-wood panels need some finishing time, Viroc, in its natural state, has a subtle depth of colour and texture, which looks like concrete.”, claimed the architects from Indigo.

The architects from Indigo – Architecture & Interiors also mentioned that “Viroc is incredibly long-lasting (…) and low-maintenance, which makes it easy to care and use for the owners.”

MaxHaus is a development company founded through a partnership that includes, amongst others, the Brazilian architecture studio Rocco Vidal P+W and the Solidi building company.

MaxHaus stands out for its unique and innovative approach to creating apartments. It designs flats as open spaces, which users can divide into as many rooms, and whatever types of rooms, as they like – they are entirely free to customize their own home. MaxHaus calls this approach “open architecture”.

The MaxHaus development in the Brooklin district of São Paulo in Brazil used grey and black Viroc to clad the facades of two tower blocks 22 and 24 storeys high. The designers used Viroc “for its natural and contemporary characteristics and appearance”, and were also inspired by European projects which make considerable use of ventilated-facade technology.

This building, at 12 Jordan Street, Liverpool, United Kingdom, is one of the few Victorian brick buildings remaining in the area.

After suffering a severe fire, the building was refurbished by Pearson Architects. The original appearance was retained, but it was converted into offices. The key to the refurbishment was adaptability. The creation of an open space divided solely by a central corridor frees up the side areas alongside the outer walls. The bricks, which are typical of Victorian buildings, are left exposed, and the spaces can be modified or adapted to suit users‘ needs.

Viroc was chosen for this project mainly for its industrial aesthetic, durability and fire-resistance. According to the architect in charge of the project, Miles Pearson, “We were able to apply Viroc quickly, without the need for skirting boards or additional finishing. Viroc proved to be an excellent alternative to the plasterboard or painted walls that are seen in many buildings”.

The Roman Sepulchral Way in Barcelona was found by chance during public works in the 1950s in an area destroyed by bombing during the Spanish Civil War. This archaeological discovery comprises the necropolis and the layout of the sepulchral way of the 1st and 3rd century that led to Barcino, the name given to Barcelona.

The Interpretation Centre is next to the archaeological zone. This centre houses the objects discovered in excavations and explains the organisation of Barcino and documents Roman funeral rituals.

Inside the Roman Sepulchral Way Interpretation Centre of Barcelona, designed by the architects Sergi Ventosa and Adelina Casanova of the Udeu studio, the sequence of unpolished Black Viroc panels arranged in triangles gives dynamism to the space, while also evoking the idea of trenches at an archaeological dig.The industrial aesthetics of Viroc, on which the information content was digitally printed, brings austerity to the space.

Petisqueira Matateu, a restaurant specializing in traditional Portuguese delicacies, is owned by a well-known Portuguese television presenter, João Manzarra, and his associates.

Petisqueira Matateu is located within legendary Restelo Stadium, home to one of Portugal’s greatest and most traditional football clubs, Os Belenenses. The name of the restaurant – Matateu – is a tribute to a legend of Portuguese football, who played for Belenenses in the 1950s and ’60s.

The restaurant enjoys a remarkable view over the River Tagus.  Inside, you breathe the excitements of football, thanks to references to Matateu. The atmosphere is comfortable and sophisticated, owing to the combination of materials used, the entrance wall clad in red Viroc being of particular note.The interiors of Petisqueira Matateu were designed by Alm&Rich, a Lisbon-based studio.

This kitchen won a “Remodeling Design Award” in the “Kitchen Remodeling for under USD 50,000” category, in 2014.

The purpose of this project, designed by architects Santiago Carroquino and Hans Finner, was to create a nursery school that fitted into its urban surroundings, comprising various eight-storey residential buildings and overlooking a public park.

The designers‘ greatest concerns were to create a building that was as environmentally sustainable as possible, and which at the same time would be sufficiently versatile for the kinds of educational activities for which it was intended.

Concluding that the top of the building would be the most visible part, the architects chose to create a carpet of grass on the roof, which blends in with the adjacent park when seen from the surrounding buildings.

The façade structure, ventilated using grey Viroc, provides energy efficiency for the entire complex, and at the same time gives it a contemporary and sophisticated look, in addition to the solar panels installed on the roof.

The interior of the building, which is for children from 4 to 36 months old, is highly versatile. Small rooms can be combined to create larger areas, depending on the particular teaching programme being followed.

The new headquarters of the Faro Motorcycle Club, located in a main avenue in Faro, Portugal, was opened in the club’s 30th year. The event marked it out as one of Portugal’s and the world’s leading motorcycle clubs.

The project was designed by architect and motorcyclist Miguel Caetano, who “wanted to highlight the importance of the association, with its enterprising, irreverent, creative and social spirit, via an architectural structure that would serve as a monument”.

The building can be viewed as two volumes, one being “essentially white, recalling the Algarve’s architectural tradition, with cubic, easily understood forms, and bereft of decorative elements”, mainly housing areas used for the club’s internal affairs. The other is clad in grey Viroc panels, giving it a look that is “cutting edge and contemporary, incorporating the entrance hall and main room”, intended more for club members‘ social activities.

In addition to offices, a bar, kitchen and toilets, this building also has a double bedroom and dormitories sleeping 12 people, a private kitchen, showers, a library, and a wide mezzanine over the bar.

Italian architect Andrea Zanero, with Unduo studio, was responsible for restructuring this loft in Turin, Italy.

Restructuring focused on making the utmost use of space and natural light. The kitchen was created around a large black Viroc work surface containing space for the main domestic appliances, sink and storage systems.

To make best use of the space, the architect created a shelving system on the walls using Viroc, to take the television, books and other items. Similarly, a long bench was made from Viroc, and grey Viroc was used to clad the bathroom walls.

According to Andrea Zanero, “Viroc is an excellect material for this kind of use (kitchen modules, furniture, storage systems and wall cladding) and an excellent way of making them look like concrete”.

The aim of this project was the restoration of the interior of an apartment of the 1960s in the city of Vigo, in Spain.

This apartment was originally composed of many divisions, typical of 1960’s constructions. It has been transformed from all these little rooms into a large interior space divided only by furniture, where everything happens. All the rooms and bathrooms open to this large common area. Of particular note is the children’s bedroom which joins with this large common area during the day by opening a large sliding door.

According to the project managers, the architects Jordi Castro Andrade and Maria González Ferro, „to emphasize the large central space as the axis of the new home, we tried to give it, besides its large floor area, greater texture using Viroc Grey to create all the storage units and partitions of the apartment. Viroc is a material that gives each panel a subtly different texture, helping us to read the central space of the apartment.”

Cantilever House is an ecological single dwelling project by the French architect James Bansac.

This house is built on a hillside on the banks of the River Saône in Rochetaillée, France. It uses a wooden structure as a starting point. It consists of two blocks, one concrete and the other of wood, one stacked on the other then the blocks are staggered, challenging the laws of gravity and the resilience of materials.

Viroc Grey was used to clad the facades and cover the indoor walls of this project. According to the architect in charge, James Bansac, „Viroc was chosen for this project primarily because of its natural appearance which gives it a very interesting appearance of concrete. Viroc’s price/quality ratio also influenced the choice.”

This unique apartment in the centre of Barcelona once housed the water tanks for the adjoining building.

Inspired by the extreme functionality found on board boats and the minimalism of Japanese interiors, all the comforts of a hotel suite in a compact environment are provided within the 22sqm of useable area, the clean design being based on two materials: timber and grey Viroc.

Viroc is a waterproof material, is aesthetically attractive and is easy to work with. Along with timber, it was used for all of the apartment’s horizontal and vertical cladding and panelling.

The walls are designed to hide all of the furniture as part of a meticulous system comprising various opening mechanisms, which contain everything needed in a house. The result is a universe that changes according to the time of day.

An outside stairway connects the lower floor to the terrace, which rounds of the comfort provided by the flat with magnificent views of the city.

The purpose of this project by Spanish architect Raul Montero Martínez was to refurbish a small flat in the historic centre of Pamplona in Spain.

The strategy was to release as much space as possible, make better use of the natural lighting, and make the flat more functional and dynamic through the use of hidden and fold-away modules that could be altered to suit requirements, such as working or sleeping.

It was decided to use a limited range of materials for the apartment. Grey Viroc panels were fitted vertically to form the dynamic modules, timber predominates on the floor and ceilings, some of the original beams having been refurbished, and the original brick wall has been left exposed, to emphasize features of the original construction.

According to the architect, Raul Montero Martínez, “the result is spectacular. The owner was very pleased and really likes the use of Viroc in his flat”.

This small flat has become a unique, functional space that can be altered according to needs, the use to which it is put, and even one’s mood.

This project from the Portuguese architecture studio Caiano Morgado Arquitectos involved refurbishing a flat on the top two storeys of a sea-front building.

The refurbishment had two main aims: to boost the flat’s link with the surrounding land- and seascape and to make it more functional.

According to the designers, the strategy developed for the Warborn Flat “was based on the bespoke principle, by exploring the inherent functionality of each area.

“The windows and balconies have been re-worked in order to enhance the scenic effect of the surroundings and emphasize the transition and link between the interior and exterior.

“Timber, white and Viroc define the flat’s various areas. Black glass provides a boundary element, and its reflections re-interpret the landscape and seascape.”

The sea and the horizon become omnipresent throughout the flat, whether framed by a window or briefly captured in a reflection.

Grey and black Viroc were used for the project, to clad walls and ceilings.

Joana Gouveia and Gonçalo Chivite from Portugal’s eCube studio were the architects of this store in Setúbal, Portugal.

The design process began by assuming that a space should have many possible uses and attract all kinds of users; a shopping area that could be easily tailored to any kind of activity.

According to Joana Gouveia and Gonçalo Chivite, the aim of the project was to “get away from the traditional idea of a store, without losing sight of the main aims, which were flexibility/adaptability, building cost and architectural value added”.

“With that in mind, we created a striking image for the building as a whole, balancing formal concepts to create impact for anybody looking at the building, and giving particular emphasis to the textures of the materials used to clad the facade, especially through the use of pre-fabricated panels of concrete and Viroc – a wood/cement composite.”

The choice of grey Viroc to clad the facade “was mainly due to its similarity with pre-fabricated concrete panels. This enabled continuity with the existing materials, creating a unitary object. We also used it for its intrinsic characteristics, because it can be applied flexibly for interiors and exteriors, enabling specific stereotomy and angles”.

The Spanish architect’s office, Ensemble Studio, was given the mission of transforming the former Madrid Matador into a Reader’s House, a benchmark cultural centre for contemporary creation in the city of Madrid.

The project is developed by the Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Foundation and led by the Spanish architect Antón García-Abril. It maintains and enhances the original nature of the manufacturing facility, combining the interior metal structures and original exterior masonry walls with precast concrete and Viroc that are now added to the building. This marks a clear difference from the original building while keeping the memory of the site as its history embarks on a new direction.

Casa del Lector thus becomes a symbiotic correlation between the universe of books and the architecture where the art of the word seems to flow through its contemporary shapes and materials.

Casa del Lector can host cultural activities of all kinds, such as exhibitions, conferences, training courses, creativity workshops, music concerts, film and performing arts festivals. These activities combine with applied research to contribute to the creation of a reader who understands, appreciates, assimilates, shares and interprets the world, society and our time.

Viroc Grey was the material chosen for all floors and for installation on some walls and ceilings.

Ana Guerra is the architect responsible for redesigning a terrace adjacent to a modern apartment in a gated condominium of the city of Lisbon, Portugal.

“The intention was to create an environment that is conducive to parties, for meals and to enjoy summer afternoons and evenings. The design contains an area for Yoga, a table for six people, a bar and sofas. The VIROC „sideboard“ includes the bar, hides the table and provides space for storing the sofa cushions“, explains the architect Ana Guerra.

The architect responsible for redesigning this terrace chose VIROC due „to its flexibility properties that allow it to create all the required forms (such as doors, drawers and table), its high weathering resistance, which means its components can permanently stay outdoors, and the contemporary aspect of the natural-looking materials, which fit the architectural language of the building where they are used without needing any finishing. VIROC possesses all these characteristics, giving the project the uniformity required for the intended result”.

The plans for refurbishing Júlio Dantas Secondary School in Lagos, Portugal, were drawn up by the Carlos Almeida Marques – Arquitectura e Urbanismo, Lda studio, headed by architect Carlos Marques.

Carlos Marques, who was in charge of the refurbishment project, explains:

”We used Viroc for the interior walls of Júlio Dantas Secondary School, because we needed to create a system of dividing walls that could satisfy four technical requirements:

it had to be easy to pass cables and pipes through, in such a way that they were simple to install and could be connected and disconnected easily, in keeping with how each room was intended to be used, providing the best functional and spatial framework for those elements;

the material used had to withstand the intensive use typical of public buildings, especially schools, and Viroc offers the kind of durability and hard-wearing capabilities required in such projects;

the walls had to provide thermal and acoustic insulation, so several studies, trials and tests were conducted with Viroc’s technical assistance, enabling us to come up with an efficient and cost-effective response;

finally, the rooms had to be flexible, given that schoolrooms are often reorganized, and the highly mobile Viroc walls meant that this could be achieved easily and with the minimum of resources.

Given the challenges we face in construction today, we see Viroc as a material that offers a modern approach to 21st-century design and architecture.”

The Peniche Surfing High Performance Centre is a project of the architect and local surfer, Adérito Carvalho and the Portuguese architects Transversal – Atelier de Arquitectura e Design.

The project uses ecological and sustainable construction solutions.

“This new facility was designed taking into account the surrounding landscape and the characteristics of the area where it is located. It comprises a raised structure built on pilings, with a wooden structure, using a unique cladding of cement and wood panels. The cladding was designed to provide effective protection of the building and give an aesthetic image associated with the sea and a fish scale,“ states Peniche Municipal Council.

The Peniche High Performance Surfing Centre is designed for the training and technical improvement of national teams, teams, and elite and top competition surfers. It can accommodate about 30 people at any one time, both coaches and athletes, and it also has various technical and administrative offices, cafeteria and dining room, a shop, a registered office for a local surf-related association and also a small environment interpretation centre.

Shelf House is a project by the architect Daniel Capela Duarte, of the Portuguese studio Mutant – Architecture & Design.

The project consists of the “mutation” of a family home of the 1960s. The ownersproposed an in-depth intervention in order to adapt that already existing for a new functional purpose and give it a new, typically contemporary image.The image of a shelf was the starting point for the conceptual development of the solution. A white border is added around the building’s facade, to convey the idea of a shelf and serving as the base for the volumes that partition the elevation and represent the books. The black volumes (Viroc Black) contain the intimate areas of the house, namely the bedrooms, while the wood-clad volumes represent the home’s social areas, i.e. the main entrance and living room.

The architect Daniel Capela Duarte states that the reasons for choosing Viroc for this project were “the versatility and the aesthetics of the product, which give it the ideal thickness to be compatible with a “capoto” system facade. Viroc also had the required colour, meaning that no painting was required”.

The invitation to bid for the relocation of a kindergarten as part of an urban renewal plan offered an opportunity to reflect on a public building’s relationship with the rough surroundings of a suburban area while also working and experimenting bioclimatic concepts in a multidisciplinary project for a public space.

The signature of Nadir Bonaccorso on this project is unmistakable thanks to his exemplary respect for the principles of sustainable architecture.
The building has been constructed in bare white concrete. Its south side is covered with Viroc Black panels with protruding volumes for sun control offering a unique space for school activities.

The interior is covered with thermal insulation, almost like a second skin. A third skin in brick and plaster protects the insulation and guarantees thermal inertia inside the kindergarten. Heating is provided by a mixed system of solar panels and a gas boiler, which supplies hot water for normal use and heated flooring. The building is ventilated by the difference in pressure from forced air extraction in the toilets, entering the building via a system of grilles in the aluminium thermal frames.

According to Nadir Bonnacorso, “The assembled material constructs the space. I like using materials that show their own nature and Viroc panels have this characteristic. It’s a material that fits in with my construction of space.”

This bioclimatic building is an international reference today and received a special mention at the third edition of the Fassa Bortolo International Prize for Sustainable Architecture. In 2010 it was selected for the OECD Compendium of Exceptional Education Facilities.

Built in three months and assembled in three days, this vacation house located in the Galician municipality of Cedeira is a good example of the many possibilities that modular construction, up to now associated with catalogue houses, offers today.
The program demanded by the client, along with the unique site of the house and modulation and transportation needs of prefabricated construction, inspired the design of this house built by the young Madrid studio MYCC, formed by Carmina Casajuana, Beatriz G. Casares and Marcos González.

The house is located on a steep slope, in a remote location in the northeast corner of the Iberian Peninsula, an area dominated by the imposing presence of the ocean and the slender forest of eucalyptus trees surrounding it. The terrain is surrounded by harvest fields, family farms and pitched roof houses. This image, protected by the area’s building codes, determined the geometry of the house that, simplified up to the point of evoking the basic house, was conceived as an autonomous piece that sits as a landscape observer and that speaks, with new terms, about the traditional language of the place.

The volume was wrapped with two materials with the purpose of setting up a dialogue with the landscape.
The roof and the side facades were covered with Viroc due to “it’s great strength efficiency in spite of being light and, therefore, is easy to maintain and move”.
According to Beatriz, Viroc was also chosen because of its concrete appearance and its “naturalness of being made of wood and not plastic”.
The two main facades of the house were clad with perforated corten trays following the schematized image of a forest silhouette, recreating the image of the surrounding vegetation.

After an assembly trial in the factory, and after making sure that everything fit in properly, the different modules and trusses of the building were taken apart to be packed and moved in trailers the whole 700 kilometers separating the factory from the remote seaside site where it was to be installed. All the parts were put together again on the designated site in just three days, and the finishing touch-ups were done in the following two weeks.
The end result is a high-quality product, designed with high standards of energy efficiency and sustainability.

El volumen fue envuelto en dos materiales con el propósito de crear un diálogo con el paisaje.

El techo y las fachadas laterales estaban cubiertas con Viroc debido a „su gran eficiencia estructural, a pesar de ser liviana, por lo que es fácil de mantener y mover“.

Según Beatriz, Viroc también fue elegido por su aspecto de cemento y su „carácter natural, porque está hecho de madera y no de plástico“.

Las dos fachadas principales estaban cubiertas con láminas perforadas de acero cortadas de acuerdo con la imagen estilizada de la silueta de un bosque, recreando la imagen de la vegetación circundante.

 

Después de un ensamblaje experimental en la fábrica, y después de asegurarse de que todas las piezas encajan correctamente, los diversos módulos y soportes del edificio se desmontaron para ser embalados y transportados en camiones durante los 700 kilómetros que separan la fábrica del local remoto por el mar. donde se instalaría el edificio. Todas las piezas se volvieron a ensamblar en solo tres días en la ubicación definida, y el acabado se llevó a cabo en las siguientes dos semanas.

El resultado final es un producto de alta calidad, diseñado con altos estándares de eficiencia energética y sostenibilidad.

Luxurious, peaceful and elegant. This describes the space designed by the Brazilian architect Márcio Corrêa from Dupla Arquitetura Estratégica.
It is a showroom set up for the launch of Brisas do Lago, a complex in Brasília built by Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias in partnership with Antares Engenharia.

Márcio Corrêa chose Viroc White for the main facades, ceiling, walls, hallway flooring and partition walls of the sales agents‘ room of this 500 m2 facility.
According to the architect, “Viroc was chosen because it is a unique product that can be applied for both interiors and exteriors. We decided to leave it with a natural look, just coated with resin.”
